Money Matters: Celebrating vital advice and support services this Advice Week

To mark the first ever national Advice Week, Wrekin’s debt and energy manager Dan Bebbington is shining a light on the vital role of advice services in helping people facing financial hardship or other difficult situations.

Advice services are a crucial lifeline to people in all manner of circumstances who need help navigating complex issues and support with all the stress and worry that come with them.

Advice UK reports that the top three categories among its members are benefits, debt and housing, but there are also organisations offering free, impartial advice on all manner of issues from health and employment to immigration and student matters.

During Advice Week, which runs from October 21 to 25, the Wrekin Housing Group is supporting the #AdviceSaves campaign to highlight how the vital work of these organisations saves lives, homes, families and jobs.

Since the onset of the cost-of-living crisis, advice services have become even more crucial, with more people finding themselves facing financial pressures and in need of help to cut household bills, increase their income or get out of debt.

For those struggling with these worries, it can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Reaching out to a trained advice worker can often feel like a weight has been lifted. Using their expert knowledge, they will assess your situation and help you plot a clear path forward. They can also help alleviate stress by liaising with other organisations on your behalf.

When it comes to issues around money, advice workers can help arrange debt solutions, apply for grants on your behalf and support you to make sure you are claiming any benefits and additional support you may be entitled to.

At the Wrekin Housing Group, our Money Matters team is on hand to help our customers. If you’re not a Wrekin customer, you can search over 700 organisations in Advice UK’s member directory.

Whatever you’re worried about, there is an advice service out there to help.
